The Dixie Blues Boys Vinyl Record Albums The mysterious Dixie Blues Boys had just one single, "Monte Carlo"/"My Baby Left Town," which appeared on the Modern Records subsidiary Flair in 1955. Although their name had led some to believe they were recording in the South, research eventually revealed that the tracks were done in Los Angeles, where Modern was based. The four members who signed the contract with Modern were Charles S. Johnson, Ozie Saxton, Dan Winston, and Clarence Wilkins, although there were more musicians to be heard on the record. The single sides were unusual for featuring two harmonicas within the early down-home electric blues format, and were solid if unexceptional performances, "My Baby Left Town" being a shuffle and "Monte Carlo" a slower number reminiscent of some of Sonny Boy Williamson's work. Both tracks were reissued on the 2004 compilation CD Modern Downhome Blues, Vol. 3: Memphis On Down, along with a cut ("Dixie Blues Boy Boogie") that had first appeared on a 1999 CD compilation; the previously unissued "Let Me Go Home Whiskey"; and a previously unreleased version of "Monte Carlo."
