The Queen City Jazz Band Vinyl Record Albums The Queen City Jazz Band has been one of the longest-running active American dixieland-oriented bands of the past 40 years. They began with a weekend gig at a small roadhouse near Denver in 1958 and since that time has appeared at a countless number of festivals, clubs and on over 20 recordings for Audiophile and their own Happy Hairy Zeno Productions. The group has through the years gone through a lot of turnover; in fact none of the musicians on their 1966 Audiophile Lp was still performing with the band by 1975! The 1993 lineup consisted of the leader Bill Clark on tuba, trumpeter John Bartmann, Lance Acker on reeds, trombonist Mark Janicki, pianist Hank Troy, banjoist Jim Tracy, drummer Marl Shanahan and Wende Harston on vocals. Despite the change in personnel, the basic goal and style of the group has remained the same, drawing its inspiration from 1920's jazz but developing its own sound within the tradition.
