Gid Tanner And His Skillet Lickers Vinyl Record Albums James Gideon Tanner: (born June 6, 1885 in Thomas Bridge near Monroe, Georgia, USA - died May 13, 1960 in Dacula, Georgia, USA) was an American fiddler and founder of Skillet Lickers. The Skillet Lickers was an old-time band from Georgia, USA, formed in 1926 by Gid Tanner. The band was disbanded in 1931, but reformed for occasional recordings after a couple of years with a changing line-up. Original line-up was: Gid Tanner (fiddle), Riley Puckett (vocals, guitar, banjo), Clayton McMichen (lead fiddle, vocals) and Fate Norris (banjo, harmonica). Later members include Lowe Stokes (fiddle), Bert Layne (fiddle), Hoke Rice (guitar), Arthur Tanner (banjo, guitar), Gordon Tanner (fiddle) and Hoyt "Slim" Bryant. |
