Ernestine Washington Vinyl Record Albums Sister Ernestine Washington (born 1914 in Arkansas ; † 5. July 1983 in Chula Vista, California ) was an American gospel singer . Sister Ernestine Washington grew up in Arkansas and sang first in the church her husband in Brooklyn, the Washington Temple COGIC. From the mid-1940s to the 1950s was a series of recordings with piano accompaniment, usually for in Newark (New Jersey) based record companies Arco, Regis and Manor Records of Irving Berman ; Known songs were "Just Make It In" and "There's Not a Friend". On January 1, 1946, she took for Jubilee Records with Bunk Johnson Jazz Band on (inter alia "God's Amazing Grace" (Melodisc, S3865) and "Does Jesus Care"..); the plates, however, were not very successful. In addition, recordings were made with vocal accompaniment by groups such as The Dixie Hummingbirds ( "Savior Do not Pass Me By" / "If I Could Just Make It In", 1945), The Heavenly Gospel Singers and The Southern Sons, As well as by her husband, Rev. Frederick Washington. Their repertoire consisted mainly of gospel standards such as "My Record Will Be There", "Savior Do not Pass Me By," "Where Could I Go," "Jesus Prayed for You and I". She was influenced by the style of Roberta Martin Singers, Allmusic compares their powerful shouter -Gesang with Mahalia Jackson .
